FIRST SADDLE BLESSING - AUGUST 2026

From Maui to Cowtown:
Shae-Lynn's Story

Shae-Lynn Smith came to Texas to run barrels. By the time she left the Cowtown Coliseum, she had placed third, learned from JJ Hampton, met JB Mauney, and received a custom saddle she never knew was waiting for her.

But her Saddle Blessing began months earlier, more than 3,000 miles away in Maui, Hawaii.

Horses have been part of Shae-Lynn’s life since before she could walk. As she grew, they became the place where her family saw her dedication most clearly. She continued to show up, put in the work, and pour herself into becoming a better horsewoman.

In June, Jackie Hartt of JP Performance Horses met Shae-Lynn while teaching a clinic for young riders in Maui. After seeing her dedication firsthand, Jackie believed her story deserved to be recognized and submitted her nomination to Saddle Blessings.

That is how every Saddle Blessing begins.

Saddle Blessings was created to recognize people in the horse community whose hard work, kindness, and perseverance often go unseen. Each recipient is nominated by someone who knows their story, and each saddle is designed and built specifically for the person receiving it. It is not simply a prize. It is something made for them, with their needs, preferences, and future in mind.

Before the presentation, Shae-Lynn’s time in Texas was already becoming a trip she would never forget.

At JJ Hampton’s, she stepped into the arena for a private breakaway lesson. Then came another surprise when JB Mauney stopped by to meet her. Along the way, Capital Hatters gifted her a straw hat, R. Watson Boots provided a new pair of boots, and The Ranch Equestrian Apparel outfitted her with shirts and Ariat jeans.

Then it was time for Cowtown.

Under the lights of the historic Cowtown Coliseum, Shae-Lynn entered the barrel race and earned a third-place finish. That accomplishment was entirely her own. She rode into that arena and proved she belonged there before she ever knew what else the night held.

Inside that same arena, Shae-Lynn was presented with a custom saddle built for her by Slaton Saddles. A custom saddle pad from Stall High and a mink blanket donated by Handmade Heifer completed the presentation.

The moment was simple, genuine, and completely unscripted. Shae-Lynn stood surrounded by people who had come together to tell her something every hardworking young person deserves to hear:

We see you. Your effort matters. Keep going.

That is the heart of Saddle Blessings.

It is not about changing someone’s story. It is about stepping into the story they are already living and recognizing the character, work, and perseverance that brought them this far.

Shae-Lynn carried those qualities with her from Maui to Texas. She showed them in the practice pen, inside the Cowtown Coliseum, and in every moment in between. The saddle may have been the surprise, but the young woman receiving it was the reason everyone gathered.

One saddle. One story. One person reminded that their hard work has not gone unnoticed.
